Welcome And Date Reminder
SPEAKER_00Good morning, this is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for April 12th, 2026. First, mark your calendars. This is the week, September 16th and 17th. Spring cleanup is here. This is your chance to clear out your yard waste, your old furniture, and anything else that's been piling up in the winter months in your garage or your storages. Um, of course, if you have any questions or you're looking for more details, you can always call the utility department at 573-774-5217. That's 573-774-5217. Also on our website, we do have a flyer that actually outlines what is permitted and what is not. So on the 16th and the 17th at 7 a.m., I advise you to have all of your items curbside on your prospective or respective days of picking up trash is when your items will be collected. So I encourage you to get out there and take advantage of this great opportunity. And as we look at community pride, and speaking about community pride, Waynesville, we have something to celebrate. Waynesville Municipal Utilities has just received the national recognition of exceptional electric reliability in 2025. That means that you, when you flip on your switch, the lights come on, and our utility crews have been recognized across the country for making that happen day in and day out. The next time that you see a crewman working, give them a wave and thank them. Nationally recognized, local appreciated, that's your city at work. And while you're out this week, don't miss the Pulassi County Farmers Market. Open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the pavilion near the Ruby Doo Spring Campground. Fresh produce, homemade baked goods, live plants, homemade crafts, kid vendors, food trucks, and more. There is always something new to discover. Support local, shop fresh, and we'll see you there. Now, as the weather starts to improve, I want to give a quick safety reminder. It's warming up. There's more people out in our neighborhoods and they're walking. Kids are back outside playing in our neighborhoods, and there's, of course, we have the construction, the traffic is being picked up across the city. I want to remind everyone to please watch your speed. Slow down in residential areas and in work zones. Our community is counting on all of us to drive responsibly this season. We do not need any catastrophic events or any um accidents along Route 66. Let's continue to drive and keep our community safe. And finally, a reminder that the Waynesville City Council meets this Thursday at 5 p.m. That is going to be April 16th on Thursday. All residents are welcome to attend. Come see your local government in action. Your voice matters, and we want to make sure that we're getting information to you and we'll be able to answer any questions that you may have. That's your Waynesville update for this week. Have a great week. Stay safe, and I'm looking forward to seeing you around the town.
