Weekly Update And Holiday Hours
SPEAKER_00Good morning, this is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for March 29th, 2026. As we head into the Easter weekend, I want to remind everyone that this Friday, April 3rd, the City of Waynesville will be observing Employee Appreciation Day for our incredible city staff. So City Hall will be closed at 10 a.m. on Friday and reopen Monday, April 6th at 8 a.m. We are truly grateful for every employee who shows up and serves this community day in and day out. Friday is also Good Friday, and on behalf of the entire city of Waynesville, I would like to wish all of our residents and their families a safe, restful, and blessed Easter weekend. Now looking ahead to next week, next week is our first week of April, and this means that it is committee week for the Waynesville City Council. On Monday, April 6th, we have our utility committee meeting beginning at 3:30 p.m., followed by our Economic Development Committee meeting at 5 p.m. Then on Tuesday, April 7th, our Roads and Grounds Committee meetings from 4 to 5 p.m. We encourage all of our citizens to come out and participate. Your voice matters in the local government. However, if you are unable to attend in person, please feel free to contact your city ward representative and share your concerns so that we can document it and it can be brought before the committee so we can address it. If you do not know what ward that you live in or who your ward council members are, please visit wardfinder.city forward slash Waynesville Mo. That's wardfinder.city forward slash Waynesville Mo. Then you'll type in your address and you will find out your local representation and their contact information. Again, that is wardfinder.city forward slash Waynesville Mo. And please note this tool only works for addresses within the city limits of Waynesville. Now, spring is here, and that means that spring bulk trash cleanup is on the way. On April 16th and 17th, have your bulk items curbside no later than 7 a.m. on your designated trash day to get your items picked up. Mark the date and start preparing now. I also want to extend a sincere thank you to all of the businesses that participated in the interviews that were conducted by our Waynesville Action Group. The effort to capture the stories and the history of the businesses along historic Route 66 and throughout our city is something truly special. Your participation is greatly appreciated. This is all in our efforts to celebrate the centennial of Route 66. And stay tuned and you'll see what all of this is culminating to and uh our centennial 100-year newspaper that talks about the story of Waynesville and Route 66 during this year of our celebration. Now, let me take a moment to recognize some important observances this month. April is child abuse awareness month, and I want to challenge every citizen, as I do every year, to do something about it. How do we participate? One of the most powerful things that we can do is by visiting protectmo kids.com. That's protectmo kids.com. And you can visit that site and complete the free mandated training. It's online, it's self-paced, and it takes about two hours. It will teach you how to recognize the signs of abuse and what to do about it. Because if we don't know what to look for, we will not be able to help. Our children are counting on us. So if you suspect child abuse, call Missouri Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-392-3738. That number again is 1-800-392-3738. April is also month of the military child. Here in Waynesville, we are alongside military families every single day. And I want every military child in our community to know we see you, we honor you, and we are proud of you. So we encourage everyone to consider wearing purple this month to show your support. Before I close, I want to make sure that every event organizer and business owner in Waynesville knows about a fantastic free resource for our community. Visit the eventbucket.com forward slash Waynesville. That is theeventbucket.com forward slash Waynesville and drop your event and your flyer right in the bucket. It streams on a digital community board 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are encouraging our local businesses to stream it live in their location so that every customer and every visitor who walks through their doors knows exactly what is happening in Waynesville. And the beautiful thing about it, it is free, it's easy, and is one of the one more way that we are working together to get the word out and support our local businesses and event coordinators, and for that matter, even our citizens. Again, theeventbucket.com forward slash Waynesville. Drop your event in the bucket today. Thank you for your continued support and making Waynesville a wonderful place to live, work, and thrive. Stay engaged, and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
