SPEAKER_00:

Good morning, this is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for December 7th, 2025. This past week was very busy as we hosted the Christmas on the Square event and the Christmas Parade. So first I'd like to say thank you to all of our volunteers for stepping up and keeping those great traditions going. This has certainly been a year of transition, but the great thing is we have people who are willing to continue the work of building our community. So thank you to Joanne and Audra for organizing the Christmas on the Square event and for Ben Rudy and the West Side Baptist Church team for facilitating the Christmas parade. And to all the volunteers that attended, hey, all of everyone that attended, without your support, these events would not be successful. So thank you as well. City Hall offices will be closed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17th to allow time for our staff to attend annual Christmas luncheon. So regular hours will resume at 2 p.m. the same day and we will close at 4 p.m. I also like to bring to everyone's attention the candidate filing for the Waynesville City Council has now opened. It'll be open from December 9th to December 30th during regular business hours. Individuals that are interested in serving the community as a member of the Waynesville City Council may file during regular business hours at City Hall. For additional information regarding eligibility requirements or the filing process, please contact the Waynesville City Hall during the normal business hours. For all who have noticed, there are traffic cones along Route 66 in preparation for our long-awaited sidewalk installation. This is exciting times. The total project is expected to take around 11 months to complete, so please plan accordingly. And as there um there may be times where there's increased traffic congestion. So be safe, watch for the workers. And again, this is also an exciting time for our city as we continue to expand our sidewalk project. On Saturday, December 13th, I will be attending a Reefs Across America commemoration at the Fort Lennetwood Veterans Cemetery. I highly encourage you to attend. This event begins at 11 a.m. and there will be shuttles to take you to the event location. Follow the guidance of the road guards and please watch your speed as you drive near Pala Road around that time. This is such a wonderful way to remember the following, and I encourage you and I hope to see you there. As a reminder, I want to share with everyone that we will not have a city council meeting for the month of December. We will resume all city meetings, including our committees and board and commissions, in January of 2026. Please stay connected. Download the city app to stay abreast of all changes according to our calendar in real time. I also want to encourage you to follow the City Podcast where I share more detailed updates without time restrictions. So you can search your favorite streaming platform and you can find the mayor of Waynesville's podcast where you can stay connected and abreast of all of our changes as they are made public. Thank you for continuing to support and making Waynesville a wonderful place to live, work, and thrive. Stay engaged, and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
