Good morning, this is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for October 28th, 2025. First, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out this past Saturday to support the 20th annual Pumpkin Fest. We had so many local businesses and churches and even residents that came out and genuinely gave back to our community, and for that I am grateful. This event was originally started by the formerly named United Methodist Church under the leadership of Pastor Bill O'Neill, who wanted to create a safe and family-friendly place for our citizens to gather and celebrate the fall season. Pastor O'Neill facilitated this event for 10 years. When he relocated, Greater Faith Church of Waynesville, led by yours truly, continued that tradition for another decade, and it was supported by our church family and community partners. This year, we've officially passed the torch to another great local church, Manna Church of Waynesville, under the leadership of Pastor Elliot Diaz, who will take on the role of facilitating this beloved fall event from here out. The Pumpkin Fest has become a true Waynesville tradition, and I'm proud of how our community continues to come together to keep it thriving. Thank you again to everyone who helps to make this possible year after year. Now for a few city updates. First, congratulations once again to Joanne, who received the Eugene E. Northern Award at the Merrimack Regional Planning Commission Annual Banquet. We also want to recognize Brooklyn Zamora of Waynesville High School, who's a student who received the Outstanding Volunteer Service Award. It's always a pleasure to honor those who serve our community with excellence. Congratulations to you both. As Halloween quickly approaches, please remember that trick-or-treat hours in the city of Waynesville are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on October 31st. I want to remind everyone to be especially careful when driving during those times as children will be out walking around through the neighborhoods. If you're out trick-or-treating, please carry a flashlight or wear something reflective so drivers can see you. And drivers, please slow down and stay alert. Let's make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable evening. Please make sure your completed applications are submitted to the City Hall no later than January 1st, 2026. If you haven't received your application or need additional information, contact Waynesville City Hall at 573-774-6171. I want to share a quick summary for some actions that took place in the City Council meeting over the last couple of weeks. We had two proposed resolutions, which of which both were adopted. Resolution 0725, which was the reappointment of Randy Beck to our board of directors of the Waynesville St. Robert Airport Board. We had also Resolution 0825, this is accepting the annexation of Rocky Dale Road from the Pulasi County Commission. We also have four proposed ordinances, of which three of the four passed. We had HB 2025-42, which was amending the city utilities rate, which will take effects in 2026. We had HB 2025-43. This was accepting the bid for phase one of the TAP grant. Now this phase one, and we also had phase two, which was HB 2025 44. Both of these grants are pertaining to the sidewalk from the RubyDoo Bridge to Icord Avenue. So there will be sidewalk improvements along that route, and this grant and this ordinance is the next step in that phase in seeing our sidewalks constructed. We also had ordinance HB 2025-45, which is rezoning of property from an R1 to a R3 on Rocky Dale Road and Lyle Curtis Circle, which did not pass. Also, want to make an announcement that on November 7th, the city of Waynesville will host its first official WAG meeting. WAG stands for Waynesville Action Group. This is a short-term community project team designed to bring together residents with specific skills for unique cultural heritage products projects that are launching this fall. This meeting will take place at Waynesville City Hall. On November 13th, the City of Waynesville will welcome Missouri ST students who were working on design projects for the city. Our staff provided a comprehensive list of ideas aimed at improving quality of life across the community. Projects such as a two-lane walking bridge parallel to the Ruby-Doo Bridge, a mountain bike trail, and several other innovative concepts. The students will present their project proposals and we will receive briefings on the final concepts. We're looking forward to seeing their creative and vision in action. And finally, don't forget that we will be celebrating and honoring our veterans on Veterans Day. This year it will be in St. Robert. So we'll meet at the St. Robert Municipal Parking lot at 11 a.m. with the parade kicking off at around 11 30 a.m., followed by the opening ceremony. We hope to see you there. Thank you for your continued support in making Waynesville a wonderful place to live, work, and thrive. Stay engaged, stay involved, and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
