SPEAKER_00:

Good morning, this is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for October 13th, 2025. It's been a very busy and inspiring week for our great city, but I want to take a moment and share some updates, some recognitions, and some upcoming events that will remind us why Waynesville is such a special place that we can call home. This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Oktoberfest on the square, and what a beautiful day it was. The weather was perfect, the music was lively, and the community spirit was strong. I had a chance to speak to so many of our residents and visitors who came to Waynesville. And I'm gonna tell you, this is just a great place to be. I want to thank all of our volunteers that organized that event because without them, we would not be able to bring and provide great community events for our citizens and visitors of Waynesville. I also want to send a special thank you to those of the Pulaski County Creative Arts Alliance, namely Jessica Harrison, Karina Obar, and Rebecca Holtz for an incredible mural they painted in the park. Their creativity and their teamwork have added vibrant color and pride to the community space. I also want to thank the Engineer School, Basic Officer Course, and all the volunteers who supported this project. Together you've shown what collaboration community and community can accomplish if we work together. Thank you. Our Waynesville Police Department K-9 officers Isabella and Arrow recently returned from the Missouri Police K9 Associations Conference in Cape Gorado. Along with their partners Officer Horde and Geiger, they participated in advanced training in narcotics detection, search and rescue, and environmental exposure. This type of professional development strengthens our department and helps keep Waynesville safe. We're proud of these officers and the dedication they bring to their service every day. About a week ago at the tailgate for the Waynesville Tigers, the city hosted a raffle to encourage citizens to download the new City of Waynesville app. This provides direct updates, alerts, and city news. So I want to congratulate our winners, Michaela Tempko, Catherine Kamen, and Meredith Davis. We're still waiting to hear from one winner named Rich. So if that's you, please check your voicemail and visit City Hall to claim your prize. And if you haven't downloaded the City app yet, please do. It's the best way to stay connected with your city government and community news. I also want to take the opportunity to recognize three of our outstanding city employees who have achieved a remarkable professional milestone. Denise Jacobs, she's the executive assistant to the city administrator. Doug Potts is our economic development coordinator, and Tracy York, the utility manager, have each earned the distinction of the certified municipal official through the Missouri Municipal League's Municipal Governance Institute. This certification represents 16 hours of advanced training in ethics, budgeting, emergency management, and municipal law. Their commitment to professional excellence strengthens our entire city team and ensures that Waynesville continues to operate with transparency, with knowledge, and integrity. We want to say congratulations and thank you for your dedication to service to our community. I also want to take a moment and highlight the electric superintendent Daniel Sheldon, who is truly powering Waynesville's future through innovation and service. Daniel expanded the advanced metering through the ARPA funded Build It Better program, helping low-income residents save on energy costs. He led the subdivision improvement program, which added over 300 new homes and 300 new connections, sidewalks, and street lights, and implemented the hometown grid into improved outage reporting and communication. Daniel's leadership has modernized our infrastructure, enhanced safety, and improved customer service citywide. Congratulations, Daniel. You're doing an outstanding job for our community. Two of our residents will be recognized at the Merrimack Regional Planning Commission annual dinner later this month. Joanne Golthy will be honored for her outstanding community contributions and Brooklyn Zamora for her youth volunteer efforts. Both were nominated by yours truly, and I'm very proud to see them represent our community with excellence and compassion. I also want to recognize Trey from our Parks Department for his incredible work during Fall Fest. Trey and his team worked nonstop from early morning until after midnight, ensuring the RubyDoo Park was clean, safe, and welcoming for more than 5,000 visitors. His dedication and his pride in his work truly reflected the heart of public service. Thank you, Trey, and to your team on the Parks Department for everything that you do and to keep in keeping our parks beautiful and our events successful. We also want to say congratulations to our business spotlight of the month, which is Security Bank. We appreciate your continued investment in Waynesville and your commitment to providing excellent service to our residents and businesses. Before I close, I want to remind everyone of two important upcoming events. We have the Pumpkin Fest vendor meeting that will take place on Friday, October 17th at 5:30 p.m. at the RubyDoo Park. Vendors will have a walkthrough of their spaces and time to prepare before the big day. Then join us for the Pumpkin Fest. This is the 20th annual Pumpkin Fest on Saturday, October 25th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. And it's going to be a wonderful day, family day event filled with food, fun, and community fellowship. So come out and join us and please share this news with everyone. And also, I want you to mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 11th at 11 a.m. for the 2025 Veterans Day Ceremony and Parade. The ceremony begins at the St. Robert Municipal Center parking lot and it concludes at the St. Robert Community Center. Let's come together to honor and celebrate the brave men and women who have served our nation. Thank you for your continued support in making Waynesville a wonderful place to live, work, and thrive. Stay engaged, and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
