Speaker 1:

Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for September 1st 2025. Well, it's here already, september. I also want to say I trust that the first couple of weeks of school is going well for the students and teachers and we just say, hey, have a good year. We're looking forward to a successful year. I have a short update for you today. First, I want to congratulate Muay Thai Bond as our business spotlight for September, and this is located on a downtown city square and I encourage you to go and try their food out. It's absolutely amazing. On behalf of the city, we want to say thank you for choosing to provide services to our community and congratulations on your achievement.

Speaker 1:

This being the first week of the month, this is our committee week. Committee week is when we have all of our committee meetings for our council. So today, being the first Tuesday of the month, we will have our roads and grounds committee meeting that starts at four o'clock. We will also have our emergency services, which will take place at 4 pm on Thursday, followed by our human resources and finance committee meeting. On September 8th, we will have our utilities committee meeting and our economic development meeting. Also this week, our city team is going to be visiting Rolla S&T students and briefing some projects to help them with their capstone. This past summer we met with department leads on projects that we thought were important to our community and a lot of them surround around safety, mobility, transportation, traffic flow and things of that nature. So we're very excited about this partnership and this opportunity of a win-win and also giving our future generation and next generation the opportunity to serve in our community and provide insight and think outside the box, and we're certainly excited about working with them as this project matures. We'll keep everyone updated and when they are finished with the projects, there will be a time where the community can come in and see the work that they have done based on the projects that were submitted.

Speaker 1:

I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the Armed Services YMCA Patriot Day will be on September 13th at 1030 am in the Waynesville Ruby Duke Park. Make sure you mark your calendars. Come down there and be a friend. It's going to be fun for our families, but also a time of remembrance of the 9-11 events. As you know, last week we had two appointees. We had an appointee to our council and also our planning and zoning. I would also say that this week, we will have our onboarding orientation for our new appointed and elected officials, and this is where they come to learn a little bit about their responsibilities. They get their maps and Robert's rules of order. They also will receive information on ethics and the responsibility to the community as a representative of the city. So this is something that I started a couple of years ago and it is a great program to get people on the right track and help them to be successful and also to be productive.

Speaker 1:

Board members and council members, in supporting you, I also want to continue to invite the citizens to download the Citi app to stay informed and receive essential notifications. Let's work together to spread the word that this app is a powerful tool for sharing critical information, as well as general updates and upcoming events. You have the flexibility of choosing the notifications that matter most to you. So, best of all, this app is completely free. So we ask you to go to your, your favorite, your um, the app store or the, whatever your favorite story is, and download this app for free and stay connected. Our goal is to have 2000 downloads by the end of 2025. Help us to reach that, because the more downloads we have, the more connection we have with our community. That concludes this week's update and I want to thank you for your continued support in making Waynesville a wonderful place to live, work and thrive. Stay engaged, and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
