Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, the Mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for August 17, 2025. It's been a very busy past few weeks for our city and things aren't slowing down. Last week, we attended the annual Sustainable Ozark Partnership meeting with a strong delegation from our community. We received some valuable information and updates about our region. A few key points included the assurance of the hospital on Fort Leonard Wood would maintain its current level of care and not be downgraded to a clinic, as well as plans for improved housing on post. This event always brings an excellent turnout and a great discussion about our future.
Speaker 1:This week we have our next city council meeting, which will take place on Thursday at 5 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend this meeting. Anthony Harrell will be nominated to fill the unexpired term of Councilman Ryan Hicks from Ward 2. If confirmed by the council, mr Harrell would then need to file to run in the upcoming election to serve the next full term. We'd certainly thank him for submitting his application. It's a great candidate and we're excited to have him on the team pending the approval of the council. On that note, I also want to encourage any citizen who is interested in serving our community to consider volunteering for one of our city boards. Current openings are available on the planning and zoning board. Other opportunities, as slots become available, include the board of adjustments and the Waynesville City Park Board To be considered. Please complete a volunteer application, which can be found at our city website at waynesvilleboworg. You may also reach out to me directly at mayor at waynesvilleboworg and I'll give you more information as needed. Even if there is no immediate openings, we maintain a pool of candidates for future consideration, so keep that in mind. A quick community notice that the city hall will be closed on Monday, september 1st 2025, in observance of Labor Day.
Speaker 1:A couple of upcoming events we have. We have the Pink Sugar Events Car and Craft Show that'll be in the Waysville Ruby Dew Park on August 30th. We also have the Armed Services YMCA Patriot Day that will take place September 13th and it begins. The ceremony begins at 10 am, so we encourage you to come down to the park and experience this, the Patriot Day. If you have not been out there, I encourage you to come. And also I want to give you a public safety reminder for this week, and I'm going to say it again Please remain alert and cautious during the school hours. Watch for children walking to and from the bus stops, and let's work together in making this a safe and productive school year. And, as always, thank you for your continued support in making Waynesville a wonderful place to live, work and thrive. Stay engaged, and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
