Speaker 1:

Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for August 10th 2025. First, I'd like to say thank you to everyone who attended this past week's Back to School Estravaganza, which took place at the ARC Sports and Recreational Center in Waynesville. It was a great turnout and it was a wonderful sight to see and witness everyone come together to help make the transition into this next school year a little less burdensome for the parents and the children. So great job to all those who participated, gave their time and donated. We thank you and appreciate you. And if you missed this last weekend's Back to School of Stravaganza, there is a Bikers for Backpacks school supply giveaway taking place on August 16th from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Piney River Tap Room, so you have another opportunity to gather school supplies if you need them and we thank them as well. Down a team down at the Piney River Tap Room and bike Bikers for Backpack program. We appreciate all of your efforts and to continue to support our students and families in our community. I'd like to share some great news for the city of Waynesville. We want to say a congratulations to Daniel Sheldon, who is our electric department supervisor, because he has been selected by the Missouri Public Utility Alliance as a 2025 Dan A Watkins and Gary L Horton Personnel Service Award. This honor recognizes his leadership, his dedication and service to Waynesville's public utilities. He will be recognized at the MPUA annual conference on October 2nd this year in Osage Beach. So congratulations to Daniel, as well deserved, and thank you for your amazing contributions not only to our city but also to all those you provide service to abroad.

A quick update from our Rose and Grounds committee meeting. Our Rose and Grounds team at the city has been very busy lately. They completed 22 service orders, with just five remaining. They hauled 105 loads of rocks for multiple city projects. They repaired 11 utility cuts and they worked on four culverts. And they applied 130 gallons of weed control to various areas throughout the city. Applied 130 gallons of weed control to various areas throughout the city. They installed and repaired 14 signs. We also received our sweeper truck back and we started to clean some areas that had some heavy buildup. We mowed eight public areas and trimmed trees, hauling 17 loads of brush. Cleared the leaf and limb dump four times, removed one fallen tree and two large branches from the road that was on. 17, painted the curbs in the police department parking lot, added rocks and extended storm drains. They assisted with the FEMA site preparation and RV park planning. We certainly want to thank them for all the hard work that they do with such a small team. We appreciate all the hard work and commitment to making Waynesville look great.

Speaker 1:

I just got a couple of updates on some events that are taking place. First of all, on August 16th in Waynesville Park, the Bad Dog Race will be taking place. This is an ultra endurance race and if you are those that like to go out and run, this is the opportunity to run 100 miles, 50 miles, 100k or 50K race or even a 12 mile run or ruck march. This is up to you. This will be an opportunity to go out there and challenge yourself. So we want to make sure we share that information. This is not a city sponsored event, but anything that's going on in the community that I think the citizens may want to know about. I'm going to share it. So if you have any events or anything that's taking place, please make sure you send that information to me and I will help share it, because I hate to see wasted resources and I know there's a lot of things that are going on in our community.

Speaker 1:

On August 30th we have the Pink Sugar events, which is a car and a craft show and there's going to be vendors and foods and it's going to be a family fun event. So I'm going to August 30th. That'll take place in the Waynesville City Park. Also, the armed services YMCA will have their Patriot Day. That'll be on September 13th, again in the Waynesville City Park. Make sure you stay abreast with the times. You can go to our city Facebook page to stay abreast of a lot of the events and things that are going on in the community. Encourage everyone to please download the Waynesville City app to stay updated with all the local changes and emergency notifications from the city. Help us to reach 2,000 downloads by December 31st. As always, I thank you for your continued support in making Waynesville a wonderful place to live, work and thrive. Stay engaged and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
