Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, the Mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for July 28th 2025. The City of Waynesville is proud to share some great news. Our fire protection rating has improved from a Class 5 to a Class 4, thanks to the effort of the St Robert Fire Department. This upgrade by the Insurance Services Office reflects faster response times, better equipment and enhanced water access. It may even lower insurance premiums for residents and businesses. This milestone highlights our commitment to public safety and strong regional partnerships. This is an outstanding accomplishment for our city. This is certainly great news.
Speaker 1:The City of Waynesville will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, august 12th, at 5.30 pm in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. The Planning and Zoning Commission will review and request a conditional use permit involving three parcels located on Pearson Street and Historic Route 66. Residents are invited to attend, share input and learn more. For questions, contact the City Building Official, nathan Carman, at 573-774-6171. 573-774-6171. We are asking all residents and business owners to help maintain their lawns, especially along Route 66, where curb appeal reflects our entire community. Tall grass and overgrown lots distract from the appearance of our city. Please understand this that we are working diligently in this effort to improve our community, but we need your help. Also, I want to give you a special note Yard signs, yard sale signs or any sign, is not permitted in the traffic circle and will be removed without notice. These signs create safety hazards and visual clutter. Let's work together and keep Waynesville clean and welcoming.
Speaker 1:I just want to make note of a couple of upcoming events the Back to School Estravaganza. Man, I cannot believe that we're talking about back to school, but the Back to School Estravaganza will take place on August 9th at the Arc in Waynesville from 9 am to 1 pm. There will be free backpacks filled with school supplies and there will also be free groceries, personal hygiene products, clothing. You can get haircuts and much, much more. Tickets for groceries and backpacks will be distributed at 8 am, so come early. You must have a ticket to receive a backpack or groceries. Backpacks will be distributed at 12 pm and the children must be present to receive the backpacks, no exceptions. For more information, call 573-337-1300. 573-337-1300. Just in case you miss that opportunity, you can also join us at the Piney Tap Room in the downtown Waynesville area on August 16th from 5 pm to 7 pm for the Bikers for Backpack School Supply Giveaway.
Speaker 1:Let's come together and support our students and spread the word. Spread the word Also for Business Spotlight. That's taking us right back down here to downtown Waynesville. We want to congratulate Hopper's Pub, our Business Spotlight for July. We also celebrate their 15-year anniversary as a vital part of Waynesville's local economy.
Speaker 1:Make sure you stop on by and congratulate them and thank them for their continued service to our community. Congratulate them and thank them for the continued service to our community. I will tell you that this business is not only providing a premium service in their genre of business, but also anytime that we have disasters or need community support, this is one of those organizations that we can always depend on. So we want to thank them for their continued support in all facets in our community and I would like to say stay safe and please be cautious of the high temperatures. Stay hydrated, check out your neighbors and avoid prolonged exposure during peak heat hours. Thank you for being a part of this great community. Together we can build strong, a cleaner and a safer Waynesville for all, and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
