Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for July 21st 2025. First, I want to remind everyone that this weekend we have Old Settlers Day 2025. This will be a weekend of history, music and community fun, held in our very own Ruby Dew Park on Saturday and Sunday, july 26th and the 27th. Our opening ceremony will be 10 am on the 26th, so join us in the park on July 26th. It's going to be a great weekend of family fun and a way to have positive connections within our community.
Speaker 1:On July 27th, from 12 pm to 2 pm, the Waynesville St Robert Senior Center will have a fundraiser meal. The adult plates are $10 and children plates are $5, and this would include chicken leg quarters, mashed potatoes, green beans and a brownie. Curbside pickup is from 12pm to 2pm, as stated, or until everything is sold out. So go ahead and join the Waynesville St Robert's Senior Center at 1401 Owsley Road in Waynesville. If you have any questions, please call 573-774-2668. 573-774-2668. Also a reminder that trash pickup times have changed, so ensure that your trash is placed curbside no later than 6 am on your respective trash day, just as a reminder. One more reminder is I want to remind all of the citizens to please do not place yard sale signage in the traffic circle. This is prohibited by MoDOT and signs that are placed there will be disposed of without notice. I would be happy to share your yard sales through our community announcements if you are interested. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. I want to continue to invite our citizens to download the Citi app to stay informed and receive essential notifications. Let's work together and spread the word. This app is a powerful tool, as I stated before, sharing critical safety information as well as general updates and upcoming meetings. You have the flexibility to choose notifications that matter most to you. Best of all, the app is completely free, so we just encourage everyone to please download the app so that we can keep and stay connected.
Speaker 1:Now update on our animal control. Our animal control department is now fully staffed and the shelter recently received a grant to purchase a commercial washer and dryer, so that's great news for our operations. However, we have taken in over 170 dogs this year and lost our source of donated food, creating an unbudgeted expense. The shelter continues to provide excellent care, including spading, neutering and micro tripping. All animals remember dogs must be leashed in the city of waynesville. Report a stray dog, please call 573-774-2414. 573-774-2414.
Speaker 1:The St Robert Fire Department continues to serve our city with professionalism and have responded to over 100 calls this year. Hydrant flushing is nearly complete and we want to thank them for an excellent job in providing this service to our community. Our dispatchers have been undergoing some training additional training and they have been participating in exercises this month to improve their response and services. So kudos to the dispatch office and the team in putting together an outstanding training event with our police officers in joint efforts. As far as the police department, this month our officers have handled over 700 calls, including 251 traffic stops, 20 burglary alarms, 14 accidents and 26 disturbances. These stops help keep our city safe.
Speaker 1:We also discussed city warrants. If you have one, you won't be jailed, but you will need to pay the fine or appear in court. It's important to take care of these matters promptly. Our police officers this month also have arrested three individuals for drinking and driving, and that's three tragedies that were prevented. Please, please and I can't say it again but please do not drink and drive. I also want to remind everyone that the McDonald's that's located in Waynesville is still scheduled to open this fall, but I also want to make mention that they are currently hiring at $14 an hour and some of the perks that they say that is included is flexible schedule, paid vacation, tuition, assistance to help earn a degree and supportive team to grow opportunities. Mcdto forward slash 6184 F G N Q E Again, that is mcdto forward slash 6184 FG NQE. You can apply at that website if you are interested in this opportunity.
Speaker 1:I have one last reminder. With the temperatures running high this week, I want to encourage everyone to stay safe in the heat. Please drink plenty of water, avoid outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day and check on elderly neighbors, your children, and please protect and take care of your pets. Never leave anyone in a parked car, even for a few minutes. Let's take care of one another. Stay cool in Waynesville, thank you, and be safe. That concludes this week's update and I want to say again, again, thank you for your continued support in making Waynesville a wonderful place to live, work and thrive. Stay engaged and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
