Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for June 23rd 2025. Last week was a very busy week. We want to thank everybody that came out to the park to support the Juneteenth celebration that was facilitated by the NAACP of Pulaski County. Also, we had the Cave State Cruisers with their 37th annual event in the park, and that was also an awesome time, and I'll just encourage you that next year they do plan on having a even bigger event with the Cave State Cruisers as we celebrate the Route 66 Centennial. So keep that in mind. We'll have a lot of great information that'll be coming out about that for next year.
Speaker 1:I want to encourage all of the citizens to download the Citi app, and this is very important. We have explored various ways to connect with our citizens and keep them informed. Currently, we utilize nearly 11 methods to share information, and we are expanding our efforts on all fronts. The city app that we have is another valuable tool for providing updates beyond social media, and that's the key. I know that there's a lot of people that do not utilize social media, so we came up with a way to keep everyone informed without having to use a social media platform to do so. So downloading this app will give you the opportunity to not only stay abreast of updates, but even when it comes to emergency notifications. This also includes boil orders, road closures, flood alerts and other urgent weather issues. There's even a calendar for the city that's available. You can stay abreast of that. You can establish and set up notifications to be notified on your app when there's new information and changes. So please, help us spread the word and let's increase participation using this fantastic tool. And I want to just encourage you please, please, please, pass this information on to your neighbors and your friends. And my goal is this year is that we would have at least 2,000 citizens signed up. We're just short of 300 at the moment, but we want to. At the end of the year we want to have 2,000. So help us to spread the word. Download this app. We don't get any funds for this. This is just about spreading information to make sure everyone stays informed, and utilizing as many ways as possible to do so.
Speaker 1:Just a quick reminder about firework safety and our orders Reminder. I want to make it clear June 3rd, 4th and the 5th are the permitted discharge dates within the city of Waynesville. The hours are 8 am to 10 pm. Please be respectable when utilizing fireworks within the city limits. Now, where can you utilize fireworks? You can have them on your private property with the owner's permission. You can also discharge fireworks in Laughlin Park. We just ask that you please clean up after you have finished and designated areas within the city limit, the city park, excluding the water spray pad, playground and other structures. And again, supervision children under the age of 14 may only discharge fireworks with supervision by someone age 21 or older. Let's be safe. Next week is the 4th of July, so please let's continue to spread the word the 3rd, 4th and the 5th 8 am to 10 pm, and please let's be respectable of one another.
Speaker 1:Now for a few updates. Of course, the city council meeting will take place on thursday, june 26th, at 5 pm. Of course, everyone is invited. That's june 26th at 5 pm at the city, the municipal building. Now the public is also invited out to the ptsd awareness walk. This will take place on friday, june 27th, at 6 pm at pavilion number no 2 in the Rubidoux Park. This event supports awareness and healing for those impacted by post-traumatic stress disorder. For more information, please contact Sarah Hoy at sarahhoyatvagov. You can go out and participate if you want to support this event. Also, we have Skate on the Square. Of course, the weather has rained us out about a week ago. It has been rescheduled and it will also take place on Friday, june 27. This is fun, family-friendly event. It will feature music, skating games and food in the downtown area. So please come out. That's at 6 pm and you can participate in skating on the square.
Speaker 1:Just as a note, on next week we will have on the 4th of July. Of course, the city will be closed on next week and we'll resume regular business hours on July 7th at 8 AM. However, although it is the 4th of July, trash will be picked up. Trash will be picked up, but the transfer station will be closed at 1 PM. If you have any questions, please contact St Robert Transfer Station 573-336-5155. Again, trash will be picked up on July 4th. However, the transfer station will be closed at 1 pm that day. So if you have plans to take bulk items over, make sure you get them done early in the morning.
Speaker 1:Also, fort Leonard Wood NWR will have a 4th of July celebration with live music featuring headliner Kanan Smith. So they're inviting everyone to come out to hear some great music, have some good times and have some fun for the entire family. So this will be on Gammon Field and it will begin at 4 pm. I want to give one safety note, and that is to make sure you please stay hydrated, check on your neighbors, especially those who are up in age, and also please keep your pets safe in this extreme heat. And, with that being said, thank you for your continued support in making Waynesville a wonderful place to live, work and thrive. Stay engaged, enjoy the weather, be safe, enjoy the holidays next week and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
