Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, the Mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for June 9th 2025. It feels great to be back home in Waynesville. Last week, I attended a strategic leadership seminar at the Army War College. This experience was amazing and I made a lot of great connections for the future development of our community. Also, I want to say thank you to those who came out to support the National Kids to Park Day event that was facilitated by our very own Waynesville City Park Board.
Speaker 1:In addition, I would like to give a big shout out, a big thank you to one of our city workers, nathan Carmen, for his tireless efforts in helping to spread the word to the local businesses and community partners in providing all of the gifts that were distributed to the children throughout our community. There were nearly 50 bikes, fishing equipment, sports equipment and many other items that were given away. I can say that the goal was that every child would leave with something, and I believe that we met that. Goal was that every child would leave with something, and I believe that we met that goal. I will be acknowledging all of our partners in the next news article and we really appreciate their support. And again, thank you, nathan, for all of your tireless efforts. He didn't have to do it, but he did it because he was doing it for the kids, so I want to say thank you for that. We got some great employees in our city that are willing to give up their personal time to help with the city's mission and vision.
Speaker 1:We also have a couple of other events that are happening this week. We have the veteran streamer ceremony that's going to be held at 4 pm on June 11th at Gammon Field. This event is part of the Army's 250th birthday celebration and will include the Campaign History Review and Veterans Campaign Streamer Presentation Ceremony, followed by a half-mile run-walk, and all of the veterans and the public are invited to attend. I also have this Thursday I'll be attending the Reefland Ceremony to commemorate that same celebration at Jefferson City. Following that, I will move on to our monthly MRPC meeting, which is Regional Update and Legislative Initiatives. That meeting is held in St James from 3 pm to 9 pm, and this is just something that I do once a month, and this is where I also have a meeting with our MODOT regional engineer and we express all of our concerns as far as roadways, sidewalks and projects along that line that can coincide with MODOT, friday morning is the Army Partnership Recognition Ceremony, so mark your calendars for the 13th at 9.30 am, as we join Fort Leonard Wood and St Robert for our joint recognition of our Army Partnership Award. This event will take place at the Lincoln Hall Auditorium at the Misco Headquarters building. All are welcome to attend. Also, on Friday at 11 am, I plan to attend the open house of the Riverstone Residential Complex. I'm excited to see the plan and the way forward with this project and, as far as I know, this is open to the public. This is open to the public.
