Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, the Mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for June 2nd 2025. I just have a few updates this week for our community. This past weekend, we had the Seaburn Best Warrior Competition take place in our city park and it was more than a successful event. So thank you to all those who came out to support and participate with this amazing opportunity to showcase the best of the best of our chemical and biological regimen. Also, thank you to those who came out to support the summer market that took place this past Saturday. I understand that putting on events such as this can be a stressful situation, but we thank you for putting in the time and bringing people to our park, because when people visit our park, they also visit our local businesses and they tend to stop and shop. So thank you for helping our city continue to grow and thrive.
Speaker 1:Next, I want to extend an invitation out to the community to flood the Ruby Duke Park, not with water, but with your presence this Saturday, from 9 am to 2 pm, for the annual Kids to Park Day event. We have many great events and things planned, with chances to win prizes for kids of all ages, foods and much, much more to win prizes for kids of all ages, foods and much, much more. This event will not be possible without the commitment and generous contributions from many businesses, individuals and non-profit organizations. At 9 00 am, there will be a fun run for kids of all ages and they will receive metal medals for participating. Last year they had a blast and the parents were able to participate with the little ones as they competed, so children will. The parents were able to participate with the little ones as they competed, so children will also have the opportunity to visit with the fire department, the police and we'll have the Mercy Lifeline helicopter land in the city park for the kids. They can ask questions, they can take pictures also.
Speaker 1:So Kids to Park Day is a national initiative. Just so everyone understands. This is not something that was started here in the city of Waynesville, but this is a national initiative that is meant to encourage our children to get outside and go experience the outdoors. The national kids to part day is originally set for the second week of May. However, since that is usually a busy weekend for our community, we have established the first Saturday of June as our alternative, which is better suited for our community to participate. You will have many nonprofits that will share summer programs this week and activities that will be available for your children, which makes it a great place to get connected and learn a little bit more about the resources that will be available. So please help us spread this word about this amazing event. What a wonderful community that we have that we could come together for one day to do this for our children in our communities. This is open to all. To do this for our children in our communities. This is open to all.
Speaker 1:The city of Waynesville will be closed on Thursday, june 19th, in observance of Juneteenth. The Juneteenth celebration. The city council meeting is rescheduled for June 26, 2025 at 5 pm. All are welcome to attend. Just looking ahead a little bit, we have the Veteran Streamer Ceremony that's going to take place on Fort Leonard Wood. It is held at 4 pm on June 11th at Gammon Field. This event is part of the Army's 250th birthday celebration and will include a campaign history review and a veteran's campaign streamer presentation ceremony, followed by a half-mile run walk, and veterans of the public are invited. So please, let's go out and support. I will be there. I hope to see you there.
Speaker 1:We also have the Army Partnership Recognition Ceremony. So mark your calendars for June 13th at 9 30 am, as we join the Fort Leonard Wood and St Robert communities for a joint recognition of the Army Partnership Award that we received this past few weeks from the Pentagon. This event will take place in the Lincoln Hall Auditorium at the Misco Headquarters building. All are welcome to attend the 37th Annual Cave State Cruisers Car Truck and Motorcycle Show. You don't want to miss this. This is an exciting event on June 21st and June 22nd in the Ruby Dew Park, so enjoy classic cars, community fellowship and automotive excellence on display. It's always a terrific event. I really appreciate all of the vehicles and the time that's spent to put on great events like this that we can always depend on and bring people to our community. So thank you for your continued support in making Waynesville a wonderful place to live, work and thrive. Stay engaged and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
