Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for May 20th 2025. First, I want to extend a heartfelt congratulations to the Waynesville High School graduates on their outstanding accomplishments. This is a season of transition for many of you and a step forward to pursue your goals and prepare to contribute to our society in meaningful ways. I also want to extend and commend our Waynesville School District staff for another successful year of educating, preparing the next generation for their futures. Your dedication makes a lasting impact and again, thank you and congratulations to the parents and the students on their accomplishments.
Speaker 1:This last week, I had the honor and a privilege to go to the Pentagon as part of a community partnership team consisting of Waynesville, st Robert and Fort Leonard Wood and receiving the ninth annual Army Partnership Award. This civilian the civilian aide to the secretary of the Army, rick Morris. He received the award on behalf of Fort Leonard Wood leadership. In the nine times that this award has been designated, this is the second time we have received this prestigious award in recognition. Our community should be proud to receive such an award as it continues to showcase our excellence and collaborative efforts in improving our local services for the betterment of this region. Just a quick reminder that this week we will have our city council meeting on Thursday, may 22nd, at 5 pm. We have several presentations and acknowledgments a part of this agenda and I can't wait to share this information, so feel free to join us and all are welcome. A reminder also on Monday, may 26th, the hall will be closed in observance of Memorial Day. Please remember that Memorial Day is a time of remembrance for the falling and those who are no longer with us. The fallen include those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Although we honor our service men and women, this day is not dedicated to service but remembrance. With that being said, please join me at the Missouri Veteran Cemetery in Waynesville, located at 25350 Highway H, for the Memorial day ceremony on Monday, may 26th, at 1 PM. This ceremony is a time of remembrance and honor to the service and the sacrifice of our U SS military veterans.
Speaker 1:Now just to update on community safety. It has been brought to my attention that we have individuals who are speeding in residential neighborhoods, particularly in communities near the middle school. If anyone witnesses these acts, please make an official report with our police department. Social media serves its purpose, but it's not the best way to address issues and concerns of safety. Call a central dispatch at five seven three, seven, seven, four, two, four, one, four, five, seven, three, seven, seven, four, two, four, one four. Help us to, to to correct the issue. Again. Social media is is is good to an extent, but if we want to create change, if we want to make an impact, if we want to bring a real awareness, let's make that up report official Again. Please call 573-774-2414 for your concerns.
Speaker 1:And last, I'll share a few updates of what we have coming ahead. Of course, the best warrior competition will take place on May 30th from 6 pm to 10 pm. We encourage everyone to come out and join us to see our partners from Fort Leonard Wood. The Chemical and Biological Regiment will host their Best Warrior competition. So come join us on that evening. It's going to be a great evening and event. Join us also for the Summer Market on May 31st, that is that Saturday. There will be crafts and there'll be food. There'll be fun for the entire family. So come out to the Ruby Doo park and enjoy the festivities. We also have kids to park day. That'll take place on june 7th 2025 from 10 am to 2 pm. This is going to be a great time for the children of all ages. There will be free bike giveaways, games, food and much, much more for you to enjoy, and thank you for continuing to support and making Waynesville a wonderful place to live, work and thrive. Stay engaged, and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
