Waynesville Update: Community Awards, Safety Tips, and Upcoming Events
Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for May 12, 2025. The City Council meeting has been rescheduled for May 22 at 5 pm. All are welcome to attend and we encourage your attendance. On that note, this week I will be traveling to Arlington, virginia, with our community partners because our community Waynesville, st Robert and Fort Linwood are receiving the Army Partnership Award for the work that we have done with the expansion of our airport terminal. I believe this is a testament to our tireless efforts. In a strong collaboration. We have exhibiting nothing less than excellence in all that we do together in developing this community. I will share more when I return.
Speaker 1:Last week I shared the importance of stopping at the crosswalks to help our pedestrians cross this road safely. Today I want to highlight another safety concern. This time is for the walkers alongside of the roads at night. If you're out after dark, especially in dark clothing, please consider carrying something reflective or wearing light clothing or light colored attire. This simple step helps drivers see and ensure that everyone gets home safely. Let's all do our part to keeping our community safe.
Speaker 1:I want to talk a little bit about yard maintenance and abatement. Contrary to popular belief, the city does not take pleasure in abating private property. What I mean by this is we would much rather focus on efforts on projects that expand our infrastructure and maintain city-owned property. Going on to residence property or business owners properties to ensure notices about overgrown grass or yard cleanliness or property cleanliness is not how we prefer to spend our time. Yard and property maintenance is a shared responsibility and it begins with each of us taking care of our own space. So please help us keep Waynesville clean and beautiful by maintaining our property. This last week actually on yesterday I had an outstanding conversation with a resident and he lives out on T Highway, but I wanted to share this because he didn't know the proper procedure and how to take care of this issue.
Speaker 1:Potholes on State Highway, 17 or T Highway. If you notice that there's potholes or other issues on a state maintained road, such as 17 or T Highway or 66, please contact MoDOT directly to report them. They are responsible for those roads. Your report helps ensure safe roads for all drivers and supports cleanliness and upkeep of our community. So the number that you can call is MoDOT is open 24-7. Customer service line is 1-888-ASK-MODOT, which is 1-888-275-6636. So you can call 888-ASKEMODOT-275-6636. And thank you for helping keep our roads safe.
Speaker 1:I would like to thank all of our citizens who have adjusted their yard sale signage and refrain from placing the signs in the traffic circle. Your cooperation helps us to stay in compliances with the strict the state regulations. If you're planning a yard sale, I'd be more than happy to include it in my morning announcements or my weekly announcements to help spread the word. All I ask is that you send the details to me at least a week in advance. For example, if your yard sale is on Saturday, may 24th, I would need that information by 5 pm on May 16th. Now, if you are interested, please email your yard sale details to mayor at Waynesville, mo dot org. Mayor at Waynesville, mo dot org. And thank you for helping us keep Waynesville clean and informed.
Speaker 1:Also, don't ever want to miss the opportunity to share ways to stay connected with the city of Waynesville, so download the city way. The Army Chemical and Biological Radiological Regiment will be hosting this best warrior competition on that Friday. So come on out, bring your family. It's going to be a great time and support is going to be all kinds of things out there for you to do and, of course, there's going to be food that you can partake of. But it's going to be a great evening.
Speaker 1:We encourage you to join us in the Ruby Dew Park. Join us also in the park for the Summer Market on May 31st 2025. There will be food and fun for the entire family. Here's to Park Day on June 7th 2025 in the Waynesville Ruby Dew Park from 10 am to 2 pm. This is going to be a great time for your children of all ages. There will be free bike giveaways, there'll be free games, there'll be food and much, much more, so we encourage you to come out, and that concludes our announcements for this week. So I want to say thank you for your continued support in making Waynesville a wonderful place to live, work and thrive, stay engaged, enjoy the weather, your family and your friends, and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
