The Mayor's Megaphone: Spring Cleaning, Tax Deadlines, and Kids to Park Day
Mayor Sean Wilson congratulates newly elected and re-elected officials in Waynesville, including City Council members Trudy Dills, Amanda Corrine, Bill Farnham, and Don Hayden. Weather conditions have delayed progress on the Little Heroes Playground, with updates to be provided as they become available.

Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for April 7th 2025. First, I would like to send out a big congratulations to all of the candidates who had won their respective elections and gained the confidence of their constituency for their respective terms. I would also like to say congratulations to Trudy Dills, Amanda Corrine, bill Farnham and Don Hayden on your real election here as part of the Waynesville City Council, definitely looking at working with you here in over the next couple of years as we continue to improve our community and the great city of Waynesville. Also, I have an update.
Speaker 1:Unfortunately, the weather has hindered the progress with the Little Heroes Playground. Unfortunately, the weather has hindered the progress with the Little Heroes Playground. We will keep everyone abreast and posted on any new updates of an expected reopening of the park. This week we also have our park board meeting, which will take place April 10th at 5 pm. This meeting is open to the public and, of course, any concerns or recommendation about our city parks are welcome at this venue. I would also add that if you are interested in supporting or participating in the upcoming Kids to Park Day event that will take place on June 7th from 10 am to 2 pm. Please be sure to contact the City Park Board. You can also come in and connect with them at this meeting on April 10th at 5 pm. You're more than welcome to attend.
Speaker 1:On Monday, april 14th at 6 pm at the Waynesville High School Auditorium, we have a national speaker, officer Gomez, covering the topic learn how to protect children from becoming victims online. The city of Waynesville has also supported this event because we believe in protecting our youth. Please share and consider participating. Just as a reminder, the free tax center is still there, but time is running out. Remember, april 15th is the last day of tax services, the free tax services. Here at 201 North Street in Waynesville, missouri. The hours are still gonna be from 9 am to 2.30 pm, where they're accepting customers Monday through Thursday, 9 am to 2.30 pm accepting customers. April 15th is the last day, so if you come on April 16th, they will not be open for business. So I encourage you to continue to use this resource while it is still available.
Speaker 1:The city council will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, april 17th, at 5 pm. This is open to the public and all are welcome and encouraged to attend. Just a quick heads up that the city will have its annual employee appreciation on April 18th and the city hours will be adjusted just for that day. Every year on Good Friday is the day that we have deemed the day for our city employee appreciation and the hours that morning will be from 8 am to 10 am and will be closed for the remainder of the day for our annual again appreciation employee appreciation day. So please plan accordingly.
Speaker 1:Also, spring cleanup will be april 17th and 18th. For the city of waynesville that means that all of your items that you would like to you're cleaning out your garage. If you want to see a list, you can call the city hall at 573-774-6171. You can visit our website it's also posted there and if you've got any further questions you can also contact the transfer station in St Robert. But April 17th and 18th are our dedicated spring cleanup days and all your items need to be curbside on your respective trash day no later than 7 am that morning. So I encourage you to go ahead and plan ahead and get that stuff ready. We're also going to look ahead here.
Speaker 1:Coming up on April 26 in the Ruby Duke Park is the best sapper competition and we're inviting everybody out from the community.
Speaker 1:There will be food there, there will be a lot, of, a lot of great activities, and I encourage you to bring your kids out and your families just to kind of partake and see what the best saapper competition is all about.
Speaker 1:As always, education was fun. It's a great way to connect with people and learn a little bit more about our community and our relationships with our partners on the fort, so this is a great time for the entire family to come out and support this great event and partnership. On May 30th we also have an extended partnership with the Chemical and Biological Reg biological regiment, who will have their best warrior competition as part of our park, and I really love having our partners from on the fort come off into the community so the community can learn a little bit more about their neighboring partners on the fort. So consider this an invitation as well. We'll we'll come out with the hours, specific hours for that day here soon.
