Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for November 4th 2024. This week is election week. I'm going to just remind everybody to get out there and go ahead and voice your opinion and cast your vote. The hours are from 6 am until 7 pm and I'll say no matter who wins, we still need to work together as a community and continue to make our community one of the best communities around. I also want to remind everyone that we have Veterans Day. That's taking place in the city of Waynesville on November 11th at 11 am at the Waynesville Middle School parking lot. There will be guest speakers and there'll be words from this year's Veteran of the Year. The parade will travel east on old route 66. Get your spots early and you will be able to hear the speeches on 98.9 and the Waynesville St Robert chamber Facebook live. You'll be able to hear it live. So tune in at 11 sharp on either one of those um those platforms so that you can hear the speeches and then also partake of the festivities if you choose to be in your favorite spot along the old Route 66. So this means that also on November 12th the city of Waynesville will reopen, because on the 11th, we will be closed. We will reopen at 8 am, so please plan accordingly. On November 15th, the Waynesville St Robert Regional Airport will have its groundbreaking ceremony for its new terminal expansion project at 10 am at the airport. So exciting times are definitely coming here for our community. We got a lot of change and new additions, so we're very excited about this. So we want to celebrate that and make sure everybody is aware of this expansion project.
Mayor Wilson:Our business spotlight this week is, or this month the business spotlight is, price Cutter. Price Cutter is, of course, located right off of Ichord Avenue in Waynesville, of course, and we want to thank them for their continued service and support to our community. This business believes in supporting not only our community, but they support it in other ways as well. They actually support the Palassi County Salvation Army and its Tree of Light ceremony by allowing them to place their kettles outside of their establishment throughout the campaign. So we want to say thank you for not only being providing a service to us, but being a service to other organizations that are providing services in our community. So we want to thank Price Cutter for all that they do within our community. I want to thank our electric department for the outstanding work that they did on the Monday evening during a storm and getting all of the power back up in those two areas that had lost power during the time of the storm. And I will tell you that team. They pride themselves on providing a premier service for our constituency, for our community, and they're always looking at ways to improve our infrastructure and make things better and more reliable for our citizens. So I want to thank them publicly for the services that they provide. And while we're sleeping and we're dry, they're out in the rain doing their job and they love what they do. So I want to commend them publicly and say thank you to Daniel Sheldon and his team, and one of these days I'll get Daniel Sheldon on so we can talk about all of the things that they do to make our community great.
Mayor Wilson:I do want to share that there will be, on November 12th, a public hearing before the planning and zoning commission of the city of Waynesville is scheduled to begin at 5 30m, which is Tuesday, november 12th, in the council chambers at 100 Tremont Center. The purpose of this hearing is to consider the conditional use permit to allow the use of an RV park to be located within the C2 zone district, at the property located off of the Red Oak Road, known as Old Whitmore Farms property, down at the Buckhorn exit. Any person that's interested in this matter may appear at the public hearing and present testimony or other evidence. After a public hearing, the Planning and Zoning Commission may, at its option, make a recommendation on the request of the present and present it to the council. So that's open to the public. I want to make sure everybody was aware of that public hearing that is going to be taking place.
Mayor Wilson:Also, I got a couple of events, so mark your calendars. This is two great events that are going to be coming up here. So we have the Christmas parade that'll be facilitated by the Kiwanis Club of Pulaski County. That will take place on December 1st from 2 pm to 3 30 pm. We also have the Christmas on a Square event, which will take place December 5th from 6 pm to 9 pm on a downtown square. So make sure you mark your calendars so that you can come out and support those events.
Mayor Wilson:I also want to remind everyone that on November 28th and 29th the city of Waynesville will be closed in in honor and observance of Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving holiday. So there. Make sure you plan accordingly. We know that'll be a short week and I will tell you that we'll reopen back up on that Monday. But enjoy your holiday season. But I want to just make sure that everybody knows plan accordingly. One other thing before I close out we have been issued flood warnings and things along that line. Make sure you stay abreast of all of the emergency notification systems. You got K-Y-3. You got other notification system out there, our local notification system that we utilize within the city and we usually post a lot of information on our Facebook site and, of course, our emergency manager puts out information quite often. So make sure you get connected to your preferred method of communication and stay abreast of all of the changes. That includes this week's update. Enjoy your week and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
