Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for September 30th 2024. On this past Friday we had a wonderful turnout in support of the homecoming parade for our Waynesville Tigers. They did not win the homecoming game, but they did put up a great fight. It was a very exciting game and I'm looking forward to seeing what they're going to do this week.
Mayor Wilson:We have a lot of great things happening in our city. First I would like to share, that is, if you have not noticed, the signal lights at Route 66 and I-Cord. They have been upgraded. There is now a flashing amber turning signal added. The city has been working to get this done for some time now. And just a little information about this the intersection of Route 66 and I-Cord was one of the most dangerous intersections within our city and this definitely has improved our safety for all those who travel that intersection there has been. When I say the most dangerous, I'm referring to the number of accidents and compared to other places within our city. Thanks to MODOT for making this happen. We've been desperately needing this to happen for some time now.
Mayor Wilson:October 10th through the 11th, the city of Waynesville will have fall cleanup. The fall cleanup will be combined with your regular scheduled trash day. All items need to be placed curbside by 7 am. If you have further questions, curbside by 7 am. If you have further questions, please contact the St Robert Transfer Station at 573-336-5155. 573-336-5155. You could also find the list of fall cleanup items on the city website and it also is posted in the Waynesville City Hall for your viewing, but I will share it today. The items that will be picked up are appliances such as washers, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, microwave, etc. Heaters, construction waste, sheetrock and lumber and it's the minimum amount that will fit into a trash can. Furniture, old electronics without rechargeable batteries. That's very important. Items that will not be picked up are tires, yard debris such as leaves, branches and soil that goes into our stump dump. We'll talk about that later. Vehicles or lawnmower batteries and TVs that have tube. Tube TVs will not be picked up. Chemicals such as spray paint and paint cans will not be picked up, and freezers or refrigerators. So those lists. If you have any questions, please again contact the St Robert Transfer Station at five, seven, three, three, three, six, five, one, five. Also, just as a reminder to everyone, the veterans day parade will be in the city of Waynesville this year. Mayor Wilson:This week is the first week of the month, which means we will have our committee meetings taking place. On Tuesday, october 1st, we will have the roads and ground committee meeting, which will take place at 4 PM. A couple of agenda items that will be discussed is the street department updates and the RV park rate ordinance discussion. So our councilmen will be talking about that RV park rate. We will have the emergency services and police committee meeting on Thursday, october 3rd, at 4 pm. Followed by that meeting will be our finance and human resource committee. That begins at 5 pm. At this meeting we always share the cash flow account status, the end of month one liner budget summary and the Westgate Improvement District update. Again, these meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to attend.
Mayor Wilson:Just a few community events that I want to share with you today. October 4th, the 22nd annual Know your World event will take place from 6 pm to 8 pm at Nutterfield House at Fort Leonard Wood. The dress is casual and it is always an outstanding event. This is where our international partners will share a little bit of their world and their delicacies and their dishes with our community. So I encourage you to go out and try this out. Take your family. We also have the Frog Hill Half Marathon and the Tadpole 10K taking place on October 5th. Now, october 5th is going to be pretty busy in our city park at 8 am, if you are interested.
Mayor Wilson:October 5th also, we have the Nasty Pulaski Road Race for our gravel bike enthusiasts. I have written it like I said I written a half nasty before, but this time I think I'm gonna do the mini nasty. The mini nasty is 25 miles, the half is 44 miles and the full nasty marathon, or bike ride, is actually gonna be 84 miles this year. Um, all proceeds will go to Eli Novick. He's a 17 year old cyclist from Columbia who was tragically struck um by an inattentive driver on September 14th. So this, these proceeds will go to towards um replacing his bike. Um. This ride begins in the Ruby Duke Park at 8 am. For more information, call 573-528-4761. 573-528-4761. Or you can search on social media the Nasty Pulaski 2024, and it'll have the maps, it'll have the contact information and it'll also have registration information. Looking forward to seeing you there. I'm still thinking about it. I may be out there. I might go ahead and ride this one.
Mayor Wilson:The Oktoberfest will take place in the city square on October 12th. Keep that in mind. There will also be a kick kicking cancer walk in the Waynesville Rubid Dew Park on October 12th. The Free Women's Center will have its 15th annual walk and run on October 19th in the Ruby Dew Park. Of course. Also we have on October 19th there will be a movie in the park event that takes place.
Mayor Wilson:The 18th annual Pumpkin Fest takes place on the 26th of October from 10am to 2pm. This is a free event for the community and if you would like to contribute or donate or participate, please send an email to Tigertowncc at gmailcom. That's Tigertowncc at gmailcom. The theme's TigerTownCC at gmailcom. The theme for this year's event is unity, so all the games we portray and we share this will portray this message. Let's make this event one to remember. The annual Ventures Day parade will take place on November 11th at 11. Of course, the roads will be blocked for through traffic during that time.
Mayor Wilson:One trick I use to ensure that I don't forget these important dates is I always add everything to my phone calendar as a reminder and I tell you that's how I kind of keep track of everything that I have to do. So I'm just sharing that little tool that I use. I mean anything from registering my car to doing all kinds of other things. But if you are one to forget information as it's put out, I would encourage you use your phone, establish and program those reminders and you won't you won't ever forget what you're supposed to be doing. And that concludes this week's update and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
