Mayor Sean A. Wilson:

Good morning, it's a Sean Wilson, the mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for September 23rd, 2024. First, I would like to say thank you to all those who worked so hard to make the third annual Hogs and Frogs event a great success, from the city staff to our sponsors, our law enforcement and our firefighters. I just want to say thank you. And our firefighters, I just want to say thank you. This was a wonderful event and I can truly say I met some wonderful people, some great people out there this weekend. I even ran into some of my veteran buddies during my time of being in an active army who I deployed with many years ago. So again, thank you for your support and I'm looking forward to our event next year. I would also like to remind everyone that on Friday, between the hours of 11 am and 1 pm, city Hall will be closed for our employee safety luncheon. Thank you for your support luncheon. Thank you for your support and please share this information. Also, on Friday we expect traffic delays. Between 2 pm and 4 pm the Waynesville High School will have its homecoming parade. The park is the staging area. The Ruby Dew Park will be the staging area and it will proceed west towards the middle school. So get your spots early and I look forward to seeing you there. Just some quick updates of some events that's going to be taking place in the next couple of weeks. October 4th, the 22nd annual Know your World event will take place from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Nutter Fieldhouse on Fort Leonard Wood. The dress is casual and it's always an outstanding event. I encourage you to go out and participate.

Mayor Sean A. Wilson:

We also have a couple of events taking place in the upcoming weeks. On October 5th, we have the Nasty Pulaski Road Race for our gravel bike enthusiasts. I have ridden a half nasty in the past and I tell you what it was a wonderful, challenging ride. It was very challenging. There are three routes to choose from. This year it's the 25-miler, it's the mini-nasty, then we have the 45-miler half-nasty and an 84-mile full-nasty run. The reason why it's called nasty is because it's on a gravel trail. It can get a little wet and get a little dirty, but you can enjoy yourself. The Nasty Bicolassie this year they're dedicating all the funds that are being raised for Eli Novick, and he was a 17-year-old cyclist from Columbia who had tragically been hit by an inattentive driver on September 14th, with all the proceeds going toward the purchase of a new bike for Eli.

Mayor Sean A. Wilson:

This ride begins in the Ruby Duke Park at 8 am. For more information, call 573-528-4761. 573-528-4761. The Frog Hill Half Marathon and also the Tadpole 10K taking place on October 5th at 8 am as well. For those that want to go out and instead of using a bike, you want to use your legs, so it's going to be plenty of opportunity for you to get involved in our park on October 5th. All of those events are on the community calendar as well as on social media. You can search those events out to get more information about them.

Mayor Sean A. Wilson:

The 19th annual Pumpkin Fest takes place on the 26th of October from 10 am to 2 pm. This is a free event for the community. If you would like to contribute or participate, please send an email to Tigertowncc at gmailcom. Tigertowncc at gmailcom. The theme this year for that event is unity, and all the games will be will help to spread that message of unity for our kids and adults. The same let's make this event one to remember. Same, let's make this event one to remember.

Mayor Sean A. Wilson:

Now I want to share some information with you that I shared in last week's city council meeting, and it talks about how we are reaching out to make sure information is available for the citizens of Waynesville and all those that want to know about what's going on in the city of Waynesville. So currently the city shares information on the following platforms. I want you to hear this. We share it on Facebook. We share it on LinkedIn, our YouTube channel, twitter, or now as it's known as X 1079, the coyote. The second Friday of each month at 8 am, that's a live update. Kfbd 97.9. On Wednesday mornings at 8.30, between 8.30 and 9 am, you receive an update. There is a City Mayor podcast that you can also download, the transcripts for those who are hearing impaired to be updated.

Mayor Sean A. Wilson:

We also have been very fortunate to have a column in the Pulaski County Weekly newspaper. You can pick this up at your local stand or visit PulaskiCountyWeeklycom PulaskiCountyWeeklycom for your viewing. We also send out quarterly newsletters. We have coming in the near future we'll even have an electric billboard. We also have informational videos in the atrium at City Hall that has updated events, things that's going on, key information. We also have our new website that is currently being developed. We should have it launched by December, have it launched by December. And with this new website comes an app, so the citizens can download an app and stay up to date with what's happening across all of the platforms, what's happening in the city of Waynesville. This new website is also going to have a blog post from the mayor. It's going to have all of the information again shared.

Mayor Sean A. Wilson:

The reason why I'm sharing all of this information is because I want everyone to understand that the city is taking every precaution and taking the lead on a lot of different things to make sure that we can get information out to our citizens. But we need your help. You have to pick one or two or three different ways of where you want to be informed and you have to share that information with your neighbor. Communication is key for us to be successful as as not only as a as a municipality, but as a community as a whole. We have a lot of resources. We have a lot of things happening, new things that are coming up. We have things that we're warning people about. We do mailers, we do door knockers. We're trying our best to get this information out.

Mayor Sean A. Wilson:

We need your help to pick an avenue and share that information with those of your influence. So when people say that we need to find more ways to get information out. I just told you about 14 to 16 different ways that the city is already putting information out there for the citizens. We need you to find out which one works for you the best and use that to help share that message with those that are not as tech savvy as others. I will also tell you the newspaper is not only online, but you can pick it up at the local stand. So, with that being said, that concludes this week's update, and I look forward to seeing you around the town.
