Mayor Wilson:

Good morning. This is Sean Wilson, the Mayor of Waynesville, with your weekly update for September 9th 2024. This week the city has held several meetings. On September 9th the Utility Committee meeting met, as well as our Economic Development and Government Affairs Committee. Our Electric Department has been very busy this last month. The electric department started the underground portion of the new tie that is going to the summit subdivision. They cleared the right away of the underground and installation of the pipe. They also dug a 2,300 foot ditch, installed a pipe and backfilled that ditch. They also finished clearing the right-of-way for feeder two, the feeder two conversion. And this is all due to our upgrades and expansion that's going on within the city to plan for new projects that are coming here. In the future there is going to be work on clearing the right-of-ways as this is the time of year where we cut the vines which may be growing on the electric poles, so keep an eye out for that.

Mayor Wilson:

Mpua hosted the first annual lineman's rodeo for september 5th and the 6th. Our electric department. They took four personnel to columbia to help build the rodeo site. Four total city cities participated. We competed but did not place. However, our team did an excellent job. We had three of our apprentices compete.

Mayor Wilson:

I will do an additional broadcast with our electric department lead, daniel Shelton, to share the details of the event in the upcoming weeks. I would also like to share an update on our meter exchange with the Tadalus system. Share an update on our meter exchange with the Tattless system. We have installed 32 more Tattless meters within the city, just as a reminder. These meters will give the citizens the ability to monitor their meter readings online, with a live update that is refreshed every 15 minutes. This is not available now, but this is what we're aiming for. This is what we're shooting for once all the meters are installed. So stay tuned for more updates.

Mayor Wilson:

Our business spotlight for the month of September is Farmers Insurance. We want to thank them for selecting Waynesville as their business home and we want to encourage everyone that, if you do frequent this business, to tell them congratulations and also thank you for staying here within the city limits of Waynesville. The address is 704 Route 66, suite 204. Of course, in Waynesville, on Tuesday, we do have a planning and zoning meeting that is to take place. It begins at 5.30 pm. There will be a public hearing for the purpose of rezoning a request from a C2 commercial to R1 residential for the properties located at 1609 Pearson, at 1609 Pearson, 1701 Pearson, 1607 Pearson and 1711 Pearson. Again, that begins at 530 this evening. Of course, the city and the citizens are always welcome to attend these meetings, pleased to help us to continue to spread the word on our weekly updates with our podcast.

Mayor Wilson:

This was created to help expand our reach throughout the community. Visit WaynesvilleMoorg and go to the mayor's page and click on the option for podcasts. Once you connect there, you will be able to see the other options there where you can connect on other platforms. With that also said, you can go back and listen to all of the the podcast that we have started from the very beginning. So to kind of get yourself up to speed on all of the updates and recent changes.

Mayor Wilson:

I would also like to share a reminder that this year we will have the Veterans Day parade within the city of Waynesville. If you would like to participate, contact the Waynesville St Robert Chamber of Commerce at 573-336-5121. 573-336-5121. I also have a couple of volunteer opportunities. We have volunteer opportunities available currently for those who are interested in participating in the Hogs and Frogs third annual event that will take place from the 20th to the 22nd of September. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Jen at 573-774-6171. 573-774-6171. Again, contact Jen at 573-774-6171. We can't do these events without volunteers to help us, so we do appreciate anyone that wants to give up a couple hours here and there to help out with this event. The other opportunity for volunteers within the city, of course, is always at our Waynesville St Robert Animal Shelter. You can call 573-774-6509 for more information. Again, that's 573-774-6509.

Mayor Wilson:

I would also like to take this opportunity to address the Lead Service Line Inventory Now the Lead Service Line Inventory all of the citizens of Waynesville and in fact this is going to be a nationwide initiative because this originates with the US Environmental Protection Agency, epa, which was further delegated down to our Department of Natural Resources, which then were sent to the entities of responsibility, which includes the city of Waynesville. We have a responsibility to respond with that information. If you have any questions about the letter that was sent to you, please, please contact City Hall at 573-774-6171,. But understand this request is not a request that's initiated by the city, but it is the responsibility of the city to follow suit with the guidelines that have been set forth. So we are to send this information out to our citizens. I have a video on my Facebook page that shows you how to conduct the inventory and also to give you a little bit more information. You can go to our city page. We'll have the video posted there as well for you to look through. But it is from the Department of Natural Resources and it tells us how to conduct this, this lead service line inventory. So we're just asking for everyone's participation as we fulfill this requirement and again, this did not originate with the city. This is a responsibility to to report back to DNR so they can push their consolidated numbers back up to the US Environmental Protection Agency.

Mayor Wilson:

Again, thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you around the town. Enjoy this nice cool weather. And also, I want to give a big shout out to our street department. They're doing a phenomenal job cleaning up Route 66. It looks good out there All the weeds and everything that's being removed and very thankful for those that have stopped along their way to pick up trash as they see it necessary. It was this last Sunday. I seen a big bag of trash and before I came back it was already picked up. So I do appreciate all those citizens that are helping keep this community clean, because it takes us, a community standing together to make everything happen. See you next week.
